With the slight ebb and flow of cannabis policy across the country, it’s always interesting to get a sense of how people’s views on marijuana have changed. It already seems pretty apparent that beyond some mostly conservative detractors, most people have much less of an issue with it than they used to. But where does it sit with other controversial topics in our country?

A new poll conducted by Pew Research Center tried to answer this question, and the answer is encouraging.

In the US, 76% of those polled did not believe that marijuana is morally unacceptable, with 24% of them calling it morally acceptable. This number sat higher than gambling at 70%, homosexuality at 60%, and abortion at 52%.

Interestingly, this is in contrast to other countries. Out of the 25 countries polled, 52% of respondents believed that using cannabis is immoral. The only other immoral majority was having an affair while married, sitting at 77%.

There were some categories that scored higher than marijuana in the US. 91% believe using birth control was acceptable and 84% believe alcohol is okay to drink.
