The DoJ is officially rescheduling marijuana

After the bluster of the original announcement faded, it wasn’t very clear if anything was actually going to happen with marijuana rescheduling in the US. Trump announced the move, signed the executive order, then nothing. For months.

But now, with an acting Attorney General who is trying very hard to make a good impression with the president, the rescheduling is moving forward.

They announced that it will happen in 2 phases.

First, products regulated by a state medical license and any products approved by the FDA are immediately moved to Schedule III.

Next, on June 29, a hearing process will begin to consider broader rescheduling of all cannabis to Schedule III. This will go until July 15 at the latest.

As a reminder of what this really does, Schedule III will allow a much easier process for research into the plant, and businesses can finally take part in federal tax deductions under the tax code 280E.

Notably, the DoJ says they would like the tax relief to apply to past years retroactively.
