There’s a new poll that came out showing a majority of support of marijuana legalization in North Carolina. This includes medicinal and recreational uses, and spans Democrats, Independents, and Republicans.
In total 63% of respondents were for it. 73% of Democrats, 65% of Independents, and 52% of Republicans.
The only group that didn’t have a majority of support was those over the age of 65.
The huge approval here is relatively new, especially for Republicans. Having many years under the belt of some states with legal marijuana shows how it can be done effectively and bring in lots of extra cash for the state.
Governor Josh Stein has created a commission in the state to issue recommendations on a transition from full prohibition to cannabis regulation. So far, they’ve come up with the plan in which the state “exclusively controls the retail channel while private businesses remain responsible for cultivation, manufacturing/processing, and wholesale distribution.”
Along with this, Stein continues to put pressure on the state legislation to change the laws. Unfortunately, it’s a Republican-controlled body.
At the very least, Governor Stein can add more fuel to the fire by using these poll numbers to make his case.
