Congressman wants to know what’s going on with marijuana rescheduling

Representative Steve Cohen from Tennessee is fed up with the lack of info coming from the White House. This week he sent a letter to the Attorney General and the DEA asking for an update on the move of cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III.

“It is critical that our drug laws and policies enable research and provide patients with access to effective therapies,” he says in the letter.

He also asked why the Department of Justice missed a deadline to issue any guidelines that would ease research barriers to drugs that fall under Schedule I.

Getting the sense that Trump may have gone cold on the move to Schedule III, the letter turns into a persuasive essay to keep Trump focused on the goal.

“You have a historic opportunity to make meaningful progress and implement the wishes of the American people, the President, and the US under the Controlled Substances Act. Rescheduling is widely understood to be in alignment with the best available scientific data and will significantly strengthen scientific and medical research into marijuana.”

President Trump has clearly been focused on other things in recent months, and the only word we’ve heard this year is a “no comment” from the Department of Justice back in January. Not a good sign.
