Trump’s Pick for Attorney General is, at least, Weed Legalization Friendly

Matt Gaetz, the Representative from Florida, is certainly a politician who is rife with controversy. The problems run the gamut, from sexual misconduct, to illicit drug use, and to bribery. An investigation into him was imminently going to be released, however this week he resigned from the House, thereby making it so there is no need for an ethics investigation.

Needless to say he’s an interesting choice for our Attorney General, and it’s unclear at this point whether or not he’ll be able to make it through the confirmation process.

But if he did, marijuana enthusiasts would have something to look forward to, because Gaetz is all in for federal marijuana legalization.

He was one of only three Republican House members who voted in favor of the MORE Act in 2022, a Democrat bill that would have legalization marijuana federally.

This means that the DEA’s efforts to reschedule marijuana probably wouldn’t be harmed by Gaetz, unless he decided to delist it altogether, which he has stated in a tweet.

It’s a little bittersweet for Gaetz to be risen to such a level, but the silverlining is certainly clear. We’ll have to wait to see what happens during his confirmation.
