On an episode that aired last week, Rogan argued that if Texas bans marijuana, the whole state will revolt by voting Democrat in the next election.
“The THC thing…Here’s what Texas doesn’t understand. You will f*ck this place up and you will turn the whole thing blue. Kids will turn on you if you tell them they can’t smoke weed. They know weed’s not killing anybody!”
As of now, Texas doesn’t have any plans to ban all forms of marijuana. They currently have legal medicinal marijuana in a very limited form under the Texas Compassionate Use Program.
However, they did recently close the loophole for hemp that contains enough THC to have a psychoactive effect on users. Any hemp with delta-8 THC, delta-10 THC, or THCP is now in the Schedule I bin with the rest of marijuana.
So Rogan’s words are more of a warning for the future. It’s clear that young people in the country see through the old school fearmongering when it comes to marijuana. They see its benefits and are choosing it over other substances like alcohol more and more.
Since Texas already has such a hard stance on THC cemented, it doesn’t seem likely that any backlash would happen in the near future. However, James Talarico, who is running for a Texas Senate seat in November, strongly supports legal marijuana and polling shows him closing Ken Paxton’s lead. Perhaps an open stance on marijuana will be the final nail in the coffin.
