Rumors are swelling that some big changes are coming soon to marijuana in the country. Trump is “very strongly” considering rescheduling marijuana to Schedule III, which would open it up to much more research capabilities and make it easier to get in half of the country in which it is still illegal.

“…a lot of people want to see it–the reclassification–because it leads to tremendous amounts of research that can’t be done unless you reclassify.”

This would solve many issues for marijuana businesses, including allowing them to work with banks without the risk of getting shut down and getting federal tax deductions, something that would ease lots of the burden put on dispensaries.

Rumors started to pile up last week that an announcement would come early this week, but it seems that the decision is delayed. However, with the way Trump is discussing this out in the open, it seems that we can expect some movement before the end of the year.

There’s a lot still unclear about what Schedule III would mean for marijuana, especially since this typically refers to drugs that are bought behind the counter at a pharmacy. Because of the robust markets already in place, this would be a slightly awkward fit for marijuana.

This is a very developing story, so more to come.
