Cannabis collaborations, both legal and illegal, are booming

The art of taking a well-known candy brand and twisting it to sound more stoner-certified is as old as the bible. For example, Reefers Cupz for Reese’s, KushKat for Kitkat, and Stoneo for Oreos. Of course, most of this is entirely illegal, but some name brands are catching on to the popularity of marijuana and trying to get a piece of the pie.

A new story at Green Market Report is shedding light on two big companies, Urban Outfitters and Magnolia Bakery, both getting into the marijuana game. Urban Outfitters has a smoke shop on its website where you can buy an assortment of high end products, and you can buy some pre-rolls in certain retail stores.

Magnolia Bakery, a very popular cupcake company, is now selling infused chocolate bars titled Incredibles, with an emphasis on the “edible” part.

So that’s the legal way to get there, but over in the illicit market, parody candies keep getting made… and subsequently getting busted.

Yahoo News reports that police in Canada just raided an organization that made a bunch of these candies and sold them at local dispensaries. They seized over 120,000 packages of edibles along with hundreds of shroom chocolates and over $400,000 in cash.

In most cases, this would be a harmless case of copyright infringement, but when cannabis is advertised as a well-known candy, kids get interested, and may get into something that they aren’t fully aware of.

The advertising of cannabis continues to ride a fine line between playful and dangerous on both sides of the law.
