Earlier this month, the Shivaratri Festival kicked off in Nepal, and it’s an interesting one for marijuana enthusiasts.
The festival celebrates the Hindu god Shiva, who is linked to weed smoking, often depicted with the plant. Marijuana is typically banned in the country of Nepal, however they make an exception each year for the Shivaratri Festival.
Any other time in Nepal, smokers get up to a month of prison time if caught smoking weed.
After being the center of the weed counter revolution in the 60’s, Nepal banned the plant in 1976. Despite recent efforts to decriminalize, this law has remained intact since then.
