Republican Representative Nancy Mace files another Marijuana Legalization Bill

Back in 2021, GOP Representative Nancy Mace from South Carolina made some headlines by creating her own Marijuana Legalization Bill. It was created specifically from a Republican perspective, where states would continue to regulate their own markets however they pleased. The new States Reform Act that she has filed would probably do the same, however the text is not yet available, so it’s unclear as to the specifics.

As of now, the only difference we know for sure are the co-sponsors on the bill.

Two years ago, it was an all Republican sponsor list. This time around, Brian Mast, Republican from Florida, Republican Peter Meijer from Missouri who lost an election last year, and Dong Young from Arkansas who passed away last year, are not on the bill. Replacing them are two Democrats, Dean Phillips from Minnesota and David Trone from Maryland, along with Matt Gaetz, Republican from Florida.

It’s a much more bipartisan bill, which should help its chances slightly, but after the last bill was never given a committee hearing, it’s much more probable that this one is just as inert.

But at least Mace is trying!
