After years of trying to get through the many assemblies of Congress, the bill to legalize psychedelics in California has finally made it through the State Senate and is on its way to the Governor’s desk. Newsom has yet to say where he stands on the bill, but it is most likely that he will sign it into law.

The bill would legalize possession and cultivation of Mescaline, DMT, Psilocybin, and Psilocyn starting January 1, 2025. It excludes synthetic psychedelics like LSD and MDMA. Peyote is also excluded due to indigenous use.

The bill will also create a workgroup under the California Health and Human Services Agency that will study and recommend a regulatory framework for therapeutic use.

We can thank State Senator Scott Wiener for his persistence on this issue, working and chiseling to make something passable over the years.
