Florida Republicans are misleading public on legalization measure

Trulieve has sued the Florida Republican party for “false and misleading” ads about Amendment 3, which would legalize marijuana in the state.

They made these claims in a mailer and ads across the state. The main point that Trulieve has issue with is the argument that only large corporations in the state would benefit from the amendment. Trulieve says this is untrue because lawmakers would be able to issue more licenses at their will to get more businesses into the game.

“Rather than eliminating competition, the ballot initiative would increase competition by allowing the state to authorize additional licenses to grow and sell cannabis,” says the lawsuit by Trulieve.

They have also sent a cease and desist letter to specific TV stations airing the ads.

“It is so funny that a company that puts almost $100 million into a political campaign is so sensitive about honest TV ads,” said the chair of the state Republican party, Evan Power, in response to the lawsuit.

Trulieve is the largest medical marijuana operator in Florida, and there’s a slight irony to the largest business being the one fighting this battle, but if the claims truly are misleading, it should be brought to light.

The election is in four weeks. Read the original article at Tampa Free Press.
