DEA promotes ad that links overdose deaths with marijuana

The Trump administration is increasing its anti-marijuana stance by trying to link cannabis with the fentanyl crisis in our country.

The latest comes from an organization, Make America Fentanyl Free, that is linked to Trump and reportedly gave input on their campaign. MAFF released an ad that very explicitly links the overdose deaths in our country to fentanyl-laced marijuana.

“Best birthday party ever. Well, except for the weed. Turns out it was laced with fentanyl – and a birthday I’ll never forget, because it was my last.”

The fentanyl-laced joint is an urban myth that just won’t go away. It continually gets brought up as a fearmongering tactic with no basis in reality. Many news stories in the past were eventually discredited, and there’s nothing concrete out there to show this being a cause for concern. It’s very well possible that this may have occurred, but the prevalence is so minuscule that it becomes unworthy of serious discussion. Nonetheless, the fear persists, and here we are in 2025 with a PSA being played during football games that spreads it even further.
