Cannabis PAC Donates $1 Million To Trump Super PAC Amid Reform Push

A political action committee backed by major cannabis companies donated $1 million to a super PAC supporting former President Donald Trump, according to new filings with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

The group, American Rights and Reform PAC—previously known as Legalize America—reported the seven-figure donation to MAGA Inc., Trump’s main super PAC, in the first half of 2025. The cannabis PAC raised millions from top marijuana companies, including Verano Holdings, Green Thumb Industries, Cresco Labs, Curaleaf, and Trulieve.

While the $1 million contribution is substantial, it represents a small portion of the more than $177 million MAGA Inc. collected from January to June. Other major donors to the Trump-aligned PAC include Elon Musk ($5 million), GOP billionaire Jeff Yass ($16 million), and Altria Client Services ($1 million).

The donation comes amid renewed pressure on Trump to embrace marijuana policy reform. In May, the cannabis PAC released ads criticizing President Joe Biden’s cannabis record, while implicitly encouraging Trump to go further, including by backing rescheduling efforts.

A Trump-affiliated ad that circulated recently appeared to support “commonsense reform,” including removing marijuana from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. Though it ended with a pro-Trump endorsement, it’s unclear whether MAGA Inc. produced the spot or when it was created.

The cannabis PAC also spent heavily on media and consulting, including $300,000 to Trump-aligned firm X Strategies and $120,500 to Fabrizio, Lee & Associates—another group tied to the Trump orbit that has polled Republican support for cannabis reform.

Despite Trump’s vocal support for marijuana rescheduling and legalization efforts on the campaign trail, he’s remained largely silent on the issue since taking office. Industry leaders hope contributions like these will motivate further action.

Still, newly confirmed DEA Administrator Terrence Cole has so far prioritized anti-trafficking and cartel enforcement over cannabis reform, despite earlier pledging to address the rescheduling review. Whether Trump’s administration will accelerate federal marijuana reform remains uncertain—but the money is flowing.
