Jerrold Nadler may be many things, but one thing you can’t debate is that he’s persistent.

The Representative out of New York has reintroduced his federal marijuana legalization bill into the House, titled the MORE Act, or the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment and Expungement Act.

The bill would take marijuana off of the Controlled Substances Act altogether, enact a federal excise tax starting at 5%, and create social equity programs for those affected by the war on drugs.

Nadler has brought forth this bill for 4 straight sessions. In 2 of these attempts, it has passed the House, only to go nowhere in the Senate, where the Republicans are in control.

Nadler is not stupid, and this bill seems to be his way of showing where Democrats stand and keeping the pressure on the Republicans as opposed to looking like his side isn’t doing anything at all to move marijuana legalization forward. The MORE Act may never get signed into law, but it’s existence and publicity helps the momentum move in a direction of change.
