Rand Paul Saved the Hemp Loophole

A spending bill is getting pushed through the Senate, and as always, the votes are tight. That means a sole Senator can have outsized power, as is the case typically with Rand Paul from Kentucky.

Mitch McConnell, also from Kentucky, is trying to change the definition of hemp in order to close the loophole created from the 2018 Farm Bill. Back then, delta-8 THC wasn’t much of a thing, and language wasn’t created to bar synthetic THC from slipping through the cracks. But slip through it has, and now delta-8 has had a prosperous existence in many states that don’t allow recreational marijuana.

So McConnell was trying to fix that up by adding language into the spending bill specifying that synthetic compounds and anything with too much THC or THCA would be illegal once again.

This did not fly for Rand Paul, and he threatened his vote if it stayed in the 136-page bill. Two days ago, it seems he won his fight and the language has been taken out of the bill.

This certainly won’t be the last time the loophole will come under attack (it is a loophole after all) so stock up on the delta-8 delta-10 before it’s too late.
