We’ve come a long way. Republicans are beginning to introduce bills that would take marijuana off of the Controlled Substance Act.
The Common Sense Cannabis Reform for Veterans, Small Businesses and Medical Professionals Act was written by Representatives Dave Joyce (Ohio) and Don Young (Arkansas), both Republicans.
Along with stripping marijuana of its controlled substance status, the bill would issue rules for sales one year after the bill would be signed into law and allow banks to work with cannabis companies in states that haven’t legalized, among other things.
One thing notably absent from the bill is any sort of social equity reform.
Nonetheless, the legislation is backed by the National Medicinal Cannabis Coalition and the National Cannabis Roundtable.
