Preclinical Trials will happen soon for Hemp that battles Covid-19

A researcher at Oregon State University had recently found that two compounds from hemp extract, CBGA and CBDA, bind to the spike protein in SARS-CoV-2 when introduced to it, which would block the protein from infecting a person.

Needless to say, the study created waves when its findings were announced, and now they’re looking ahead to next steps.

Richard van Breeman, the scientist behind the study, believes pre-clinical trials should happen within the next few months. This is the step before clinical trials that are tested on humans.

“These cannabinoid acids are abundant in hemp and in many hemp extracts,” van Breemen said. “They are not controlled substances like THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, and have a good safety profile in humans. And our research showed the hemp compounds were equally effective against variants of SARS-CoV-2.”

The future of this finding, if held up in upcoming trials, would be hemp-derived treatment for Covid-19. I have a feeling this is a much better pill to swallow for the vaccine-skeptics out there.
